Sabine, an herbalist, is friends with the sole princess, so one night to give her friend the chance to explore the town during the Blood Moon Festival, Sabine put on the princess’s silks. At midnight, the mist came with the rising of the blood moon, and with it came Vetle the Hollow King.

Undead, unforgiving, and unrelenting, Velte has come to claim the heir of the one who betrayed and cursed him and his people so that he can end the curse. The wretched wedding and ceremony will free them all, but marrying the wrong bride will doom them to dust and condemn the bride’s soul to the Beyond. His advisor swiftly spots the truth of who she is and warns her not to try to tell the king the truth again or else Vetle will destroy her in his rage. Instead, he insists that there may be another way they have yet to discover and they cannot cross back to retrieve the real heir.

Trapped within the Hollow Kingdom and on the other side of the deadly mist, Sabine must find a way to end the curse without destroying herself. And though at first she hates the dark mysterious undead king who has trapped her here, lingering touches and tiny cracks in his façade suggest there’s more than a heartless ruler intent on saving his people and finding revenge.

But time is running out as the curse itself must be removed before the Blood Moon ends in three days or else they’ll all turn to ash together.
